Business Resources in the West Metro

The Wayzata West Metro Chamber plays a vital role in driving business growth and economic development throughout the West Metro area of Minnesota. Acting as both a connector and a resource hub, the Chamber works closely with the cities of Minnetonka, Plymouth, Wayzata, and beyond to ensure businesses in the region have access to the tools, support, and information they need to grow and succeed.

The West Metro is one of Minnesota’s most dynamic economic regions, home to a diverse mix of industries and businesses, from small startups to major employers. The Chamber’s mission is to be a positive force in its communities, embodied by providing access to local resources, expert guidance, and opportunities for collaboration.

Local Business Support Resources

Each of the Chamber’s partner cities offers specialized economic development support:

  • Minnetonka: Businesses can reach out to Economic Development Coordinator, Kjerstin Yager (kyager@minnetonkamn.gov, 952-939-8234) for help with navigating development resources.
  • Plymouth: Contact Jennifer Erickson, Economic and Workforce Developer (jkerickson@plymouthmn.gov, 763-509-5416) for assistance with business development and growth in the city.
  • Wayzata: Contact Alex Sharpe, Community Development Director (asharpe@wayzata.org, 952-404-5312) for help with city planning, permits, and other development inquiries.

Elevate Hennepin: A Game-Changer for Small Businesses

One of the standout resources for West Metro businesses is Elevate Hennepin, a county-wide initiative launched in 2021 to provide trusted, no-cost support to businesses. Through this platform, entrepreneurs gain access to expert advisors, technical assistance, and educational programming — all curated to meet real-world business challenges. Whether you’re launching a new idea or scaling an existing business, Elevate Hennepin helps you build a strong foundation and reach your goals. Contact them at economic.development@hennepin.us.

Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers: Open to Business

The Open to Business program from MCCD is another powerful support tool. Entrepreneurs in the West Metro area can receive free, confidential business counseling tailored to their unique needs. From crafting a business plan to finding financing, Open to Business advisors help you build a roadmap for success. Contact them at info@mccdmn.org or (512) 789-7337.

Minnesota DEED: Statewide Support for Business

At the state level, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) offers a full suite of services, including workforce development, international trade support, and small business grants. DEED’s comprehensive Resource Guide connects business owners with funding, growth strategies, and workforce support to stay competitive in today’s economy.

One valuable DEED program is the Employer Reasonable Accommodation Fund (ERAF), which provides up to $30,000 in reimbursement to help small and mid-sized businesses accommodate employees with disabilities — creating more inclusive and productive workplaces. For more information, contact eraf.deed@state.mn.us or 651-539-2390.

Whether you’re just starting or looking to expand, the resources available in the West Metro are extensive, accessible, and designed to help you thrive. The Wayzata West Metro Chamber is proud to help local businesses connect to these opportunities and grow stronger together.
