A Note from your Board Chair

Adam Thompson,
FocalPoint Business Coaching
I had the pleasure of seeing many of you at the Annual Member Appreciation Picnic. There was ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s Wayzata, tacos from Lago Tacos Plymouth, boat rides from Wayzata Marine, and the chance to meet or reconnect with fantastic business leaders with Wayzata Bay as the backdrop. It doesn’t get much better than that!
It is hard to believe that August is already here….summer in Minnesota goes fast. We are just a few short weeks from James J. Hill Days! If you’ve never attended, put it on the calendar and make a point to get to Lake St., September 5-7. Live music all weekend, craft beer sampling at Rails & Ales, a carnival, all the best food trucks, fantastic vendor booths, Dachshund races, a parade, and 80,000 of your closest friends. If you want to get more involved, there are volunteer opportunities throughout the weekend; there is no better way to connect with the community than to serve in the community.
Can’t wait until James J. Hill Days to get your Chamber fix? Plenty is going on in August. As always, you can find details on these events and more on the Chamber Event Calendar.
- New Member Orientation is Thursday, August 7. This is a great opportunity to connect with Members and get caught up on how to make the most out of your membership. Register here.
- EmpowHER Women’s Network Luncheon is Tuesday, August 12. This month’s topic is “Connecting Your Values & Living in Alignment.” We will explore whether or not you are matching your “real” behaviors with your “ideal values.” Don’t miss out! Register here.
- The Benefits Shop Ribbon Cutting Celebration is Tuesday, August 19. Come meet Terri Jo Halverson, President and Founder, to learn more about her business services and how to make insurance simple. Register here.
- The Wayzata Business Council is on Thursday, August 21, at Josefina’s on Lake St. Get ready to network and hear updates on what is happening around town and at City Hall. Register here.
These summer months are a wonderful time to connect with your fellow members, because networking and meeting new people is more fun on a patio with a cold beverage in your hand. If you’ve been waiting for the right time to reach out to that member you want to meet, the right time is now. As someone who has built so much of my business through Chamber relationships, I can attest to the value of getting to know your fellow Chamber Members. And if you are unsure how to make it work, reach out to me and let’s get you connected!
See you around town,
Adam
