Part-time Temporary Communications & Events Specialist
(hourly or contract) up to 25 flexible, scheduled hours per week (some evenings & weekends)
Timeline: estimate second half of 2026.
Compensation: Up to $20–$30/hour, commensurate with experience (part-time), or contract project-based fee (up to $2,000–$3,000/month), depending on experience and scope.
Location: Wayzata, MN (in-person / hybrid)
Position Overview
The Wayzata West Metro Chamber is seeking a part-time or contract, temporary Communications & Events Specialist to support communications, manage social media, and assist in the execution of member events and two signature community festivals. This flexible, project-based role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in communications, event coordination, and administrative support. This position reports to the president.
The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with staff, members, sponsors, and community partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Communications & Member Events
- Manage social media channels for Chamber and Festivals
- Drafting, scheduling, and distribution of digital communications through Mailchimp
– Weekly member e-newsletter (e-Gateway)
– Weekly promotional e-blast (Shop. Eat. Enjoy.) - Manage general Chamber inbox and route communications
- Update website and blogs via WordPress
- Provide administrative support for member programs and events
Festivals & Event Support
- Assisting execution of two community festivals
- Support volunteer coordination and communications
- Prepare event communications
- Design festival signage
- Support day-of event operations and troubleshooting
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and project support as needed
- Assist with special initiatives and Chamber projects
Qualifications & Experience
- 3+ years of experience in communications, events, and/or administrative support
- Experience with CRM/member software (GrowthZone a plus)
- Proficiency in Mailchimp or similar email marketing platforms
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media, Canva, Google Drive, and Excel
- Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator/InDesign) preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Availability for occasional evenings and weekends
- Ability to assist with event setup/teardown (lift up to 45 lbs)
